With over 25 years of experience as a GP, Dr Sapna Samant brings a wealth of vibrant knowledge and experience to her role at Tend.  In addition her accomplishments in medicine, Dr Sapna is an excellent communicator, drawing on her background in creative fields of writing and filmmaking.

Working for 5 years as a GP in Porirua, Dr Sapna moved to Auckland in 2019.  She has a special interest making a difference in migrant and refugee health, and maintains a keen interest in youth and mental health, as well as Maori and Pasifika health.  She has also worked in marae and outreach clinics, and for a number of NGOs.

Dr Sapna also loves language, and can speak Marathi and Hindi, a fair amount of Gujarati, and a smattering of German, Spanish, Arabic and Te Reo.

When she isn’t diving headfirst into a new project, Dr Sapna loves to indulge her passion for travel, reading, films and writing.  She also loves to keep fit both mentally and physically through her practice of yoga and vipassana meditation, creating a solid grounding for her planned foray into tai chi!

My interest in storytelling has enriched my experience as a doctor, which has in turn influenced how I see disease and wellness, in the context of the richness and the wholeness of people’s lives with their whānau and communities.
