Dr Rawiri is of Ngati Hinerangi and Ngati Raukawa descent. He was formerly a resource teacher of Māori in the Hawkes Bay before he completed his training as a medical practitioner at Middlemore Hospital in South Auckland.

This pivot from education to healthcare was fueled by his deep commitment to the Māori language and a determined focus on improving health outcomes for Māori.

He loves working as a GP, supporting whānau from confirming a pregnancy through the early years, all the way to supporting patients with long term conditions. Rawiri sees his role in the medical field as a privilege, providing not just clinical care but also emotional support to families and patients navigating their health journeys.

Outside of work Rawiri enjoys spending time with whānau and his grandchildren. He also enjoys hiking, read and has an appreciation of the arts.

I love working as a GP, supporting whānau from confirming a pregnancy through the early years, all the way to supporting patients with long term conditions. It is a privilege to be alongside whanau and patients when they need support from a health team.
