Julie was born in Taiwan and grew up in Christchurch. She completed her medical training at the University of Liverpool in 2008 and worked in medical oncology for five years at Wythenshawe and The Christie Hospitals in Manchester, UK. Her experience in cancer care gave her a deep appreciation for continuity of care and supporting patients through their health journeys.

In 2016, after the birth of her second daughter, Julie transitioned into general practice, working across both rural and urban settings in Greater Manchester. She returned to Christchurch in 2022 to raise her family and joined Tend Hagley Park in March 2023.

Julie is happy to consult in both English and Mandarin.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her daughters, teaching them Mandarin and Gu-zheng. She serves as the president of the Hwa Hsin Society, supporting the local Taiwanese community. She also enjoys swimming, reading, Chinese calligraphy and watching Crusaders and All Blacks matches.

During my time in cancer medicine I learnt that practicing medicine does not mean that you just tell your patients what to do, you guide and walk with your patients through their journey of fighting their illnesses. I learnt the importance of continuity of care which led me to become a GP to care for my community.
