Originally born in South Africa, Dr Maryann Watson pursued her medical education at the University of the Witwatersrand before beginning her career in medicine.

Her professional journey led her to work as a medical officer at Germiston and later for the Germiston Municipality. In 1995, she made the decision to emigrate to New Zealand, seeking new opportunities and experiences.

Throughout her career, Maryann has gained expertise in various areas of medicine. She has worked in psychiatry at the local authority, conducted family planning and geriatric outpatient clinics, and spent three years at the Family Planning Clinic in Tauranga. Her dedication to patient care and genuine interest in working with people have allowed her to establish long-standing relationships with many patients, some of whom she has known for over 20 years.

Outside of work, Maryann maintains an active and balanced lifestyle. She frequently attends the boxing gym in the mornings, does Zumba dance workouts once or twice a week, and actively participates in her local church. She also finds joy in spending quality time with her closest friends and playing board games.

She is fluent in both English and Afrikaans and has completed a basic Te Reo course at Te Wananga o Aotearoa, facilitated at her church.

My path has taken me through various realms of medicine, from psychiatry to family planning and geriatrics. It's been a journey defined by deep connections with patients, some spanning over two decades.
